Demand for TFT-LCDs will continue to be strong in the next couple of years despite recent figures pointing to an unexpected demand decline in the tablet sector. LCD manufacturers such as Microtips Technology, LLC will therefore continue to produce the latest units of TFT LCDs, mainly for the booming smartphone and automotive markets. Data from the Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) show that volume shipments of small to medium TFT-LCD display panels will breach the 3 billion unit-mark in 2015 and 2016, increasing by about 0.1% and 0.3% YoY, respectively. Many applications of this size of LCD panels have reportedly reached their “point of saturation,” accounting for the meager growth percentage. One of these applications is the tablet computer, which is expecting lower demand in coming years.
