LCD Module Manufacturer Firms to Increase Quality for Reduced Cost
Many LCD module manufacturer firms note that 15% to 25% of the total cost of each LCD come from backlight units and inverters. This is the reason why manufacturers now aim to increase panel transmissivity, as doing so would dramatically reduce the need for backlight lamps, inverters, and optical films, and consequently reduce the total panel costs. Aside from the reduced cost for each unit, increased transmissivity could also improve power efficiency. Conventional LCDs lose the majority of the illumination produced by backlight lamps due to polarizer absorption, causing only around 5% of total light transmitted to make it to the screen. Industry observers say that even small improvements in transmission can lead to significantly reduced dependence on backlight lamps. Just by increasing transmission by 5%, an LCD manufacturer like Microtips Technology can reduce backlight by 50% and still achieve the same results.
